Philosophy

The overall intent of most of the great furniture designers, who tended to be egalitarian rather than elitist, was that their pieces could be bought and used by the wider community. Breuer, for example was very much part of the Modern Movement and his furniture has been described as 'democratic' or 'affordable furniture for the masses'. Thanks to considerable developments in production techniques, which were not available when the prototypes for these classic pieces were developed, lower prices are now possible.

In our various categories, we offer a mix of contemporary and classic high quality, low cost, innovative furniture for customers who recognise good value. We are not the cheapest store in the land, choosing instead to strike a balance in maintaining good quality at an accessible price - the old adage that 'you get what you pay for', is as true today as it ever was.

Beatnik era births 'Pad'

PAD is a word which was coined by the beat generation and others to describe one's home or 'place of residence'. Then as now, it suggests somewhere warm, secure and comfortable, somewhere one would like to be. We like to think that the products we offer for sale at PAD, in our Alexandria showroom, can be described in the same way.

We are particularly fond of the name as it came about during our youth and has now been re-embraced by a new generation!
